Former cop turned military contractor Christopher Henry knows that better than anyone. He's in the country to train up a new Iraqi police force, and one of his recruits has just been murdered. With civil authority in tatters and dead bodies clogging the streets, Chris is the only person in the Green Zone with any interest in finding out who killed him-and why. Chris' inquiry brings him first to Sofia, an American-raised Iraqi who now sits on the governing council, and then to Nassir, a grizzled veteran of Saddam's police force-and probably the last real investigator left in Baghdad. United by death but divided by conflicting loyalties, the three must help each other navigate the treacherous landscape of post-invasion Iraq in order to hunt down the killers. But are their efforts really serving justice-or a much darker agenda? Inspired by his real-life experiences as a CIA operations officer in Iraq, writer Tom King (BATMAN) teams with artist Mitch Gerads to deliver a wartime crime thriller like no other in THE SHERIFF OF BABYLON VOL. 1: BANG. BANG. BANG., collecting issues #1-6 of their groundbreaking Vertigo series. Suite Française - Storm in June (2015) English | CBR | 224 pages | 135.09 MB Suite Française, an extraordinary novel about village life in France just as it was plunged into chaos with the German invasion of 1940, was a publishing sensation ten years ago; Irène Némirovsky completed the two-volume book, part of a planned larger series, in the early 1940s before she was arrested in France and eventually sent to Auschwitz, where she died. The notebook containing the novels was preserved by her daughters but not examined until 1998; it was finally published in France in 2004 and became a huge international bestseller, including in the US, where it has sold over one million copies. This dramatic and stirring graphic novel, translated from the French and faithful to the spirit of Némirovsky's story, focuses on Book 1, entitled "Storm in June," in which a disparate group of Paris citizens flees the city ahead of the advancing German troops. However, their orderly plans to escape are eclipsed by the chaos spreading across the country, and their sense of civility and well-being is replaced by a raw desire to survive. A feature film version of Suite Française, starring Michelle Williams, Kristen Scott Thomas, and Margot Robbie, was recently released. Emmanuel Moynot is a graphic artist and the author of more than forty graphic novels published in France. We can’t begin to fathom the imagination, time, and resources it must have taken to put together these toy brick re-creations but at 2015’s Emerald City Comicon, the Seattle-based toy brick builder club, ArchLUG, constructed an astonishing display of scenes and architecture taken from the pages of and inspired by Mouse Guard. Witchblade Animated 01 (2003) English | CBR | 24 pages | HD | 44.94 MB Here they are, Witchblade, Darkness, and Magdalena, together again for the very first time. This time, however, their adventures occur in an "animated" -style universe. The story suffers from an identity crisis. For whom is this intended? It looks like a kids' comic, but is that the target audience? For starters, it's a little too violent. Nobody gets killed in Archie. Even comics such as Justice League Adventures don't usually start with murders and contain exposition on medieval torture. This comic book, however, does. Additionally, it's cynical and irreverent when it comes to religion. It doesn't have to be a Christian comic book, but, if it's aimed at kids, it should at least be respectful. And haven't we seen enough evil priests already? It's become a cliché on a par with "the butler did it." If it's not appropriate for kids, then it must be for adults. If so, then it's like umpteen other stories we have already read in Magdalena, Warrior Nun Areala, Vampirella, and elsewhere. The comic book would probably be best appreciated by regular Witchblade fans who may be enchanted by the novelty of the "animated" art and by teens who haven't read the same plot those umpteen other times. It's not clear whether it's truly aimed at younger children, but there is material in it that parents might find objectionable.
