AJ and Magnus (2015-2019) English | CBR | 5 Issues So you have a modern re-imagining of Calvin and Hobbes except with an English Mastiff and two fathers. That's the short version of the story. AJ & Magnus, as the name might suggest, is a series of comic strips that mainly revolves around the adventures of AJ Parker and Magnus, his dog (who may or may not be a Talking Animal but we definitely know he is real). They cause havoc around the house with their pranks, antics, and crazy adventures, induced by AJ's overactive imagination and dramatic tendencies. Often it is up to the stay at home Dad Alex to clean things up after the two. The comic strips are written by Bryan Steel and illustrated by his husband Simon. The strips themsevles started on 8th August 2014 but did not gain popularity until later on. It is noted for its positive representation of an LGBT+ family with no overt stereotypes for the two fathers. Well, when they feature anyway. The comic is mainly about AJ and his dog in their misadventures. Heck, we did not even know about the existence of "Pop" John until October later on that year! And then there's Claremont the dog, who dreams big, naps hard, and may be the most mature of all. 9 to 5 (2001-2019) English | CBR | 19 Issues Rancorous bosses, quirky workers, and an up-and-down stock market populate the world of 9 to 5. Arlo and Janis (2011-2019) English | CBR | 9 Issues Alley Oop (1996-2019) English | CBR | 24 Issues Alley Oop is a syndicated comic strip, created in 1932 by American cartoonist V. T. Hamlin, who wrote and drew the popular and influential strip through four decades for Newspaper Enterprise Association. Hamlin introduced an engaging cast of characters, and his storylines entertained with a combination of adventure, fantasy and humor. Alley Oop, the strip's title character, was a sturdy citizen in the prehistoric kingdom of Moo. He rode his pet dinosaur, Dinny, carried a stone war hammer and wore nothing but a fur loincloth. He would rather fight dinosaurs in the jungle than deal with his fellow countrymen in Moo's capital (and only) cave-town. In spite of these exotic settings, the stories were often satires of American suburban life. 9 Chickweed Lane (2001-2019) English | CBR | 19 Issues 9 Chickweed Lane is an American comic strip written and drawn by Brooke McEldowney following the fortunes of the women of three generations of the Burber family: Edna, Juliette, and Edda. 9 Chickweed Lane is the address of the characters' former family home.
